It’s getting colder outside, and my skin needs some extra help keeping it’s “glow” in the winter months. I mixed together a great 2 ingredient natural anti-aging face moisturizer for simple, wholesome skin care year round. I also researched and created another simple DIY version of the serum/cream if you have or want to control your own additions of the essential oils. All of the information on why I chose the oils for each recipe are explained below each recipe.

I really love making my own face and body care products because usually it’s cheaper and reacts better with my skin than even the fanciest of natural skin care products, plus I feel comforted that I know exactly what is in the product that I am smearing all over my body. While I think Avalon Organics is a reputable natural product company, have you seen the ingredients lately? It can get overwhelming trying to decipher them. See below:

Avalon Organics Vitamin C Face Renewal Cream:

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice(1), Aqua (Water), C10-18 Triglycerides, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil(1), Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil(1), Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter(1), Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil(1), Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil(1), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil(1), Arnica Montana Flower Extract(1), Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract(1), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract(1), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract(1), Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Extract*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract(1), Olea Europaea(Olive) Leaf Extract(1), Saccharomyces/Xylinum/Black Tea Ferment(1), Algin, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum, Alcohol(1), Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Citral, Limonene, Linalool

It’s nice to have a product that only has 3-5 incredients that you can easy understand and explain why it’s beneficial. As far as whipping up these recipes on your own, I prefer coconut oil as the carrier oil (meaning the base of the recipe) for my face creams, but it works best with my face chemistry, which mine is combo skin, but tends to dry out more in the winter. Sweet Almond Oil and Olive oil are great, sensitive skin options, and in the winter it might be nice to have a face cream that doesn’t become very hard in the colder temperatures in the house. The pure essential oils smell great and I love knowing exactly what is in my face cream and being able to adjust the amount of which oils I add over time. Some of you may experiment and create your own blend that works for you, and please share with us if you do! I hope this gives you some guidance and please let me know how it works for you!

Why these oils for the Face Serum for All Skin Types?

Rosehip Seed Oil (get it here)

Rosehip seed oil is truly an amazing product, light amber in color, it is considered a “dry” oil, meaning that it soaks into the skin easily, and does not leave a greasy residue. This unique oil is extremely high in essential fatty acids and has carried much respect amongst professional journals and organizations as being a great agent in the fight against dry, weathered, and dehydrated skin. It works wonders on scars and is the predominant oil used for treating wrinkles and premature aging. Can be used in all fine skin care recipes. Because of its delicate nature and the cold pressed method of extraction, it should be kept refrigerated, and it should also be noted that rosehip seed oil is often more susceptible than other vegetable oils, especially in regards to fluctuations in temperature, oxygen, and light. It is a wonderful hydrator, and penetrates dry or damaged skin immediately. This oil may be used straight from the bottle as a moisturizer, or can be incorporated into a cream, lotion, facial oil, or massage oil. Because it is so gentle, rosehip seed oil may be used undiluted on the skin. Rosehip seed oil is a safe, inexpensive, effective, and non-invasive product for preventing and healing damaged skin. Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) has a wonderfully uplifting, calming, flowery scent. It is excellent for the skin, and its aromatic influence helps release negative memories. Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) has a sweet, warm, balsamic aroma that is stimulating and elevating to the mind. Useful for visualizing, improving one’s spiritual connection, and centering, it has comforting properties that help focus the mind and overcome stress and despair. Frankincense is considered the holy anointing oil in the Middle East, where it has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. More recently, it has been used in European and American hospitals and is the subject of substantial research. Frankincense is also a valuable ingredient in skin care products for aging and dry skin. The ancient Egyptians used it in rejuvenation face masks. (source here)
